Graduating from the University of Connecticut this past May left me with many unanswered questions. I left the school with a degree in Sport Management, the ability to say I played division 1 hockey for four years, and gaining some of the best friends imaginable. Through my senior season I felt this feeling inside my stomach telling me that I was not ready to give up competitive hockey but instead wanted an opportunity to expand my horizons while playing the game I love.
That is when I chose to start looking at playing overseas. This process was an exciting adventure, I knew I wanted to play in Germany since I am very German myself. However, where in Germany was left unknown. Through this process I talked to many wonderful coaches, but coach Sven from Mannheim Maddogs really opened my eyes to all the amazing opportunities and experiences their team had to offer me. Through many emails and Skype calls I was able to make my decision and choose the Maddogs to be my home for the next year.
This whole summer I have been preparing to head over to Germany and compete at the highest level. I worked a full time job at a summer camp as well as having an intense workout schedule. On August 20th I will be leaving Wisconsin and flying to Germany for the first time in my life. I am very excited but have some nerves as well leaving home and going somewhere all by myself.
Going to UConn was a similar experience—I knew no one going in, but was embraced by the team when I arrived. Being on a team really allows for me to feel like a family away from home. I am very excited and blessed to begin this next chapter in my life.
