PHILADELPHIA, PA – Nov. 2, 2022 – The Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA), in partnership with Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC) and the Ottawa Senators, today announced details surrounding their first-ever all-star event, set to take place in Ottawa on Sunday, Dec. 11. All four PWHPA teams will also play regular season games in Kemptville, Ont. and Gatineau, Que. on Dec. 9, and at Canadian Tire Centre on Dec. 10 – the complete schedule can be found below.

The Canadian Tire PWHPA All-Star event will see top players from the PWHPA compete in a skills competition and 3-on-3 tournament at Canadian Tire Centre, home of the Ottawa Senators. The Canadian Tire PWHPA All-Star Fan Vote will allow fans to vote for one All-Star player from each team, without regard to position. The top vote-getter from each team will be named as the four Captains of their respective All-Star team. Voting starts today on the PWHPA website and ends Sunday at 10 p.m. ET. The four captains will draft their starting line-up from a pool of 40 additional PWHPA All-Stars, to be selected by PWHPA players, coaches and staff. Tickets for the All-Star Weekend and regular season games at Canadian Tire Centre can be purchased via Ticketmaster starting on Nov. 17. PWHPA Insiders will have the opportunity to purchase presale tickets on Nov. 16 by signing up for the newsletter here.

“When we started planning the 2022-23 season, we knew we wanted to elevate the experience for both players and fans,” said PWHPA Operations Consultant Jayna Hefford. “The All-Star festivities will be another tremendous platform for our athletes to show just how talented they are—and have some fun while doing it. Canadian Tire and the Ottawa Senators have been key partners in making this vision a reality and we know it’ll be a fantastic weekend for everyone involved.”

All-Star events will kick off at 10 a.m. on Dec. 11 at Canadian Tire Centre, with the skills competition set to start at 11 a.m. Players selected by their peers will compete in four skills challenges: fastest skater, accuracy shooting, skills challenge and a breakaway challenge. Players competing in the skills competition will be voted on by their PWHPA peers and do not have to be competing in the All Star game. Following the skills contest, a round-robin tournament of six, ten-minute 3-on-3 games will kick off at 12:30 p.m. The final two teams will compete in the championship.

“Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC) is proud to be the title partner of the inaugural PWHPA All-Star Weekend in Ottawa,” said Kim Saunders, Vice President of ESG Strategy, Community Impact and Sports Partnerships. “CTC is committed to celebrating women in hockey at all levels, and empowering young girls across the country to see that they too can be leaders in sport.”

PWHPA players will take part in autograph sessions and meet-and-greets throughout the weekend. The All-Star event will be attended by special guests, to be announced leading up to the weekend.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to host the PWHPA’s first ever All-Star event at Canadian Tire Centre,” said Ottawa Senators Executive VP and CFO Erin Crowe. “Investing in women’s hockey is extremely important to the Senators organization. We hope that having these elite athletes in Ottawa to showcase their skills will create a lasting impact on the next generation of young players.”

The PWHPA will also run skills clinics on Dec.10 for both youth girls ages 6-11 and adult women players 19+ looking to step on the ice and learn from world-class players. Tickets for the clinics can be purchased through Showpass now – Girls 6-11 and Women’s 19+.

Fans can purchase tickets for PWHPA regular season games in Kemptville at North Grenville Municipal Centre here and in Gatineau at Centre Slush Puppie on Dec. 9 now here. These regular season games will count toward season points.
