NAIT Ooks vs. Red Deer Queens in ACAC Finals

Welcome to March Blog Followers!

It’s the beginning of a new season for the NAIT Women’s Hockey team. Playoff season that is! This Friday we kick off our first game of a best of five series against the Red Deer Queens. Red Deer managed to beat out SAIT 2 games to 0 this past weekend which has them moving on to the ACAC Finals against us.

This past weekend our team spent most of the time together where we were working on our team goals for playoffs and also having some fun with a scavenger hunt. We had to walk around Edmonton and find clues our coaches set out for us. We managed to complete it in a great amount of time which shows that our teamwork paid off.

Even though we had this last weekend off with hockey, we didn’t necessarily take much time off. We took advantage of practicing everyday to work on our powerplay, penalty kill, and just practicing our other plays in general. Our team knows that playoffs are a whole different feeling, and a totally different atmosphere than regular season play. It’s going to take everything we got, and we have to show up to the rink everyday ready to play our best.

I am getting pretty excited to have my parents come down next week to catch the end of the finals, as they do every year. It has become a tradition and there is nothing more I could ask for then to have them in the stands watching. It will be special this year as it is my final year so having the support from my family just makes it so much better.

It wasn’t too long ago when I wrote my last blog so there isn’t really too much else to fill you guys in on. The next blog I write will be letting you know what the outcome was of the ACAC Finals and I hope it is the right one (knock on wood). I am looking forward to sharing my next few weeks of experiences with you and I look forward to this last month of hockey.

Enjoy your month of March and make it the best! 🙂
