Episode 9: Be Bold and Have No Fear

Episode nine of the Women’s hockey life podcast, we sat down with Blake Bolden, scout for the Los Angeles Kings. Among many achievements in her life (first black woman to become a NHL scout and first black player in the NWHL to name a few) , Blake also was a player for the PWHPA, CWHL and even for HC Lugano in Switzerland. She also was recently featured on the cover of USA Hockey magazine.

Bolden reflects on finding her love for the game through a family member, playing as mostly the only girl on her teams, and being the only black player on many teams until her senior year at Boston College. She also talks about diversity and inclusion in the game and what needs to change.

Throughout the conversation, Blake opens up about the various community efforts the LA Kings organization is doing and her involvement. Despite, COVID-19 restrictions, Blake is working on various projects, and it is exciting to hear what the organization is doing to spread awareness for the game as well as creating more diversity within the sport.
