MEET GABRIELLE!

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!

My name is Gabrielle Arps! I’m 12 years old, soon to be 13 and I live in Australia. I’ve been playing ice hockey since 2017. I play defence and I’m the captain of my ice hockey team. I represented my state in the National Pee Wee Championship in 2019 and was the only girl selected for the team and we were the National Gold Medallists. I played with my brother in the same time for the past couple of years.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE A WHL BRAND AMBASSADOR?

I want to represent girls in ice hockey in a positive way and to highlight the fact that girls can represent their club, state and country.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AS A #WHLAMBASSADOR?

To showcase ice hockey in Australia and to show how determination and a good attitude pays off.

WHAT’S SOMETHING NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I like gymnastics and touch football and horses and sometimes I don’t like morning hugs.

IF YOU COULD SIT DOWN AND HAVE DINNER WITH ONE FEMALE HOCKEY PLAYER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Remi Harvey who was my state coach and she represented Australia in ice hockey. I’d like to ask her about her hockey playing life.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN IN HOCKEY OR IN LIFE?

Communicate on the ice and motivate your team. Play and train as hard as you can and don’t waste your time on negative comments.

WHAT’S YOUR DREAM FOR WOMEN’S HOCKEY?

To improve the standard of Australian women’s ice hockey and to have a women’s ice hockey league that is treated the same as the men’s and not looked over.
