PWHPA Announces Pittsburgh as Third Stop of Secret® Dream Gap Tour

Share
PHILADELPHIA, PA –October 5, 2022 – The Professional Women’s Hockey Player’s Association (PWHPA) today announced the third event of its 2022-23 season will take place in Pittsburgh, PA on November 25-27, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The event will consist of a total of four games—to be played at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex— as well as community events, including two girls hockey clinics.

Games will take place on Saturday, November 26 and Sunday, November 27 as the PWHPA’s four teams continue to battle for season points. Tickets are available for purchase now via Showpass. The PWHPA will also host two clinics on Friday, November 25th — the first for girls ages 8-11 from 5-6pm and the second for girls ages 12-15 from 6-7pm. Girls who wish to learn from world-class PWHPA players can secure their spots now via Showpass

“The city of Pittsburgh, as well as the Penguins, have been great supporters of the PWHPA so we’re thrilled to be heading back in November,” said PWHPA Operations Consultant Jayna Hefford. “With the success of our Rivalry Rematch game earlier this year, we know there’s a huge appetite for elite women’s hockey in Pittsburgh so we know this will be a great weekend for both the fans and our athletes. We’re also excited to be involved with the ‘Burgh Girls Fest’ tournament throughout the weekend— by providing young players visibility and access to the best hockey players in the world, we’re continuing our goal of growing the game.”

The PWHPA last played in Pittsburgh in March 2022 when the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted a post-Olympic “Rivalry Rematch” between Canada and the United States, which saw an attendance of more than 5,000 fans. Star players will once again be on the ice, including the likes of Hilary Knight (Team Sonnet), Marie-Philip Poulin (Team Harvey’s), Sarah Nurse (Team adidas) and Megan Kellar (Team Scotiabank).

“The Penguins are honored to host the PWHPA players once again at our world-class facilities,” said Penguins President of Business Operations Kevin Acklin. “The support for women’s hockey in Pittsburgh was on display during the Rivalry Rematch this past March at PPG Paints Arena. Hosting some of the best female hockey players in the world at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in November continues the Penguins’ commitment to growing the sport of hockey for girls, not only in Pittsburgh, but throughout North America.”

The event will be the PWHPA’s third Secret® Dream Gap Tour stop of the season following Montreal, QC on October 15-16 and Truro, NS from Nov 4-6.
