NAIT Ooks in ACAC Finals For Third Year In A Row

Share

Welcome to the month of February (I know I am a bit late…. Oops!)

It’s hard to believe that the regular season is coming to a close and with that being said, the NAIT Women’s Hockey Team is playing our last two regular season games this weekend. This weekend has us up against the Red Deer Queens who we have battled hard with all season and most games have only been 1 or 2 goal differentials. I am happy to let you guys know that our team has clinched first place which gives us an automatic by to the finals. It’s super exciting and this will be the third year in a row where we will be heading into the ACAC Championships.

Even though I am so happy and excited for the results so far this season, I have also been getting quite emotional since it is my fifth and final year. My games in an Ook jersey are getting closer to being done and it’s been emotional to say the least. I’ve had the most amazing five years here and the experiences I have had are overwhelming which is why it will be tough. Wearing the Ook for five years hasn’t happened often in this league, and it was such an honor to be able to do so. I am sharing these final moments with two wonderful teammates I have got the opportunity to spend my full five years with, Jill Diachuk and Lindsey Brouwer. We have been together since the beginning and we are going out together in the end. It’s pretty neat, and we have all shed some tears already…. So this weekend will be interesting yet funny to some people while they see us bawl our eyes out.

Other than that, there isn’t really much new in my life. I’ve been working, playing hockey, and going to school and that is on repeat. There is not much else happening in the life of Sherri Bowles. My parents will be coming down in three weeks to watch us in the finals and spend the last few games with our team which makes me even more thrilled. It will be a great ride and there is nothing I want more than to end my playing career at NAIT on a good note!

I will be sure to fill you all in on the results and share my final experiences with you….

Peace and love.

Sherri Bowles, NAIT Women’s Hockey #15
