Cougars Rebound After Two Rough Weekends

Share

Hello again!

November was a busy and rough month for the Cougars prior to Thanksgiving break.  Our first tough weekend was at the Plattsburgh Cardinals, who beat us twice in high scoring games.  Our second and the more frustrating of the two November weekends happened to be against Buffalo State, who won by a score of 3-1 in both games on our home ice.

Our most recent weekend showed improvement after a short holiday break as we faced off against the newest team in our conference, the William Smith Herons.  Our first game we battled and finally managed to generate offense in the third period with two goals, by junior Katrina Hawkins (#21) and sophomore Jenny Jones (#15).  The final score of the first game was a 2-0 win for the Cougars.

The next day, we found our offensive power earlier and sophomore Erika Martin (#7) put one in the back of the net in the first period for Chatham.  Sophomore Jenny Jones (#15) would produce another goal on a 4v4 and first year Marissa Janiga (#27) would score on the power play all within the first period following Martin’s goal.  We held the Herons to no score throughout the rest of the game, leading to a 3-0 win and a sweep to end our 2014 conference games for ECAC West.

With this being our second sweep of 2014, we have broken a record for Chatham with most weekend sweeps in a season.  It is especially significant because both of these have been at home ice.

Academically, first semester has ended for us and we have some time off.  After our short holiday break, we are back at it again at the Codfish Bowl in Boston where we will face off against a few out of conference schools and also against Stevenson, who we previously played and lost to.

Happy Holidays everyone!
