Chatham Faces Stevenson and Sweeps Morrisville

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Following first semester exams, the Chatham Cougars returned for winter training camp to prepare for Stevenson, whom we played January 2nd and 4th.  With a loss of three teammates, we knew we had to come into that weekend with some momentum to carry us through second semester.

Stevenson swept us the weekend of the 3rd, the first loss occurring in overtime and the second loss in regulation.  Morrisville, the second non-conference weekend of second semester, is a new program and with the bitter taste of loss from Stevenson, we knew we couldn’t allow ourselves to be swept again.

The first game against Morrisville on the 8th, Jillian Rowland (first year #10) kicked off the scoring with a beautiful power play goal past the goalie’s blocker side.  Another first year, Kristina Block (#5) would go on to score the game-winning goal in the second period on a two on one play.  Erika Martin (junior #7) scored the third goal, solidifying a 3-1 win over Morrisville.

The second game proved to be a harder task than the first day with Morrisville performing with more vigor than they did the previous day.  Marie Soukup (senior #4) scored the first goal of the game, followed by Cassidy Colhoun (sophomore #9) on the power play.  Morrisville Mustangs answered with two goals in the second period, Chatham scoring no goals until overtime.  Erika Martin (junior #7) scored in overtime to secure a sweep against Morrisville for the Cougars.  Other notable performances included Kirajean Frost (first year #33) and Erika Bronk (senior #16) who both earned two assists each during the second game.

Looking ahead to the month of January, we face off against Oswego and Elmira the next two weekends at home then we are on the road to travel to Cortland before returning home for senior weekend against Utica.

Until next time,

Marie #4
