MEET SAVANNAH SONG!
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Savannah Song, I am 15 years old, and I am from Richmond, Virginia. I am a freshman in high school and I play hockey, soccer, and volleyball. I started hockey when I was 12 years old. However, my parents didn’t let me play in a real league until I was 13. Although I am a late starter I have been working really hard to get my skill up to the level of the people I play with. I have always played on a boy’s team as there are no girl’s teams in my area. Hockey is my passion and I hope to take it as far as I can.
What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?
I first saw the WHL page on instagram and I saw that a lot of younger girls were becoming ambassadors. It seemed interesting and I thought I could contribute ideas as an older player. I want to be an ambassador because I want other girls to have the opportunity to play girl’s hockey.
What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?
I am really looking forward to contributing ideas to the team and future of women’s hockey. I look forward to meeting other girls with the same passion for hockey.
What’s something not a lot of people know about you?
I like skateboarding and drawing. I play the violin and I love science, especially chemistry.
If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?
I would have dinner with Hilary Knight. She is my idol and favorite female hockey player. She came from a boys team just like I did, and I would ask her about her experience at the Olympics.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?
The best advice I have ever been given is to not be realistic. Being realistic stops your ability to see yourself somewhere else in the future, and being able to work hard to get there.
What’s your dream for women’s hockey?
My dream for women’s hockey is for women to have a professional league that has the same pay as men.
