AHL Hires Hayley Moore As VP Of Hockey Operations

For the better part of five seasons, Hayley Moore has been a vital aspect to the growth and success of the Boston Pride hockey club. Hired back in 2015, Hayley filled the role of general manager and worked her way up to being named as team president.

Taking on a flashier role meant putting the work in to grow the Boston Pride hockey brand. Doing so amid a pandemic, this didn’t get in her way, as she flourished with each agreement. Now a week away from season six, these supports are in place to grow exposure of the franchise.

Adding these achievements to her resume made Moore a prime candidate for a role she was familiar with. Applying to take on a new challenge, the American Hockey League announced on January 11th that Moore has been named as VP of hockey operations. For the AHL, this is the second position they have filled with a female during the extended offseason.

Starting her new role after the bubble, Moore will be tasked by the league with overseeing the league’s on-ice operations, including management of the AHL officiating program and the league’s disciplinary process.

Between her two stints with the Pride, Moore, from 2017-19, was the deputy commissioner of the NWHL. Working alongside Dani Rylan, she also headed the league as director of player development. Much like the duties she’ll be responsible for, Moore oversaw all hockey operations, and thus, was integral in the growth of the league.

When Miles Arnone joined the Pride as team owner, that’s when Hayley Moore transitioned roles as the president. In doing so, her primary duties have been managing all hockey and business operations. While previously serving as GM, Moore helped guide the team to a championship and a two-year record of 30-4-1.

As Moore gets set to take on her next chapter, she said of her six years of invaluable experience, “My career has been fueled by a passion for development, so I am thrilled to be joining the American Hockey League, the premier development hockey league in the world. For this enormous opportunity, I want to thank Scott Howson and the AHL’s Board of Governors, and I look forward to working with everyone in the league. I also want to acknowledge the owners, players and staff of the Boston Pride, and my colleagues at the NWHL. I am immensely proud to have been a part of the league for its first six seasons.”

Along with her duties at the pro level, Moore brings with her some administrative experience as director of girls’ hockey for the East Coast Wizards youth hockey association. While operating the team in Bedford, Massachusetts, Moore, 34-years-old, was also commissioner of the Eastern Women’s Hockey Conference.

Prior to her duties at the pro level, the native of Wakefield, Massachusetts was a two-year captain back at Brown University. During her collegiate hockey days, the Boston executive was a two-time All-Ivy selection. Going on to play professionally, Moore signed with the Boston Blades under Erin Whitten in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League.

After only one season with the team, Moore circled back to college, where she served as assistant with the Harvard women’s hockey team. She also coached with USA Hockey, where she worked as a development camp skills coach and on-ice director.

Giving it one last go as a player, Moore then made the trip overseas, where she was given the chance to play pro hockey in Switzerland. From there, she made the decision to head home and sign her last pro contract with the Boston Pride. There, she only played in two games in 2015-16, the league’s inaugural season. Continuing to chase the passion she loved, that’s where Moore hung up the skates and began her next chapter as the team’s general manager.

Joining the AHL on February 8th, President and CEO Scott Howson said of Moore’s qualifications, “Hayley has extensive experience at every level of hockey, and will provide outstanding leadership in her role with the American Hockey League. On behalf of our Board of Governors, I am pleased and excited to welcome her to the AHL.”
