MEET AUSTYN PAGANO!

Tell us about yourself!

My name is Austyn Pagano, I am 8 years old and I live on Long Island, New York. I started playing hockey last year and wanted to be a goalie.  I loved it the first time I tried it. I played on the house league team, then I signed my first contract for the travel team to the Tier 1 AAA Junior Islanders Boys Team 8U Mites.

What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?

I want to be a brand ambassador because I want more girls to know that hockey is the best sport in the world and not to be afraid to play.  I want little girls to look at me and see how much fun hockey can be. I want to be a role model to girls and women.

What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?

I am looking forward to meeting other girls that are just like me. Maybe even meet some new friends.

What’s something not a lot of people know about you?

I also play softball.  I love swimming and playing with animals. I also love playing video games like Fortnite.

If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?

I would want to meet Manon Rheume because she is a girl like me and played in the NHL as a goalie and I want to do that some day for the New York Islanders.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?

The best advice I was given was to never let anyone tell me that I don’t belong on the ice.

What’s your dream for women’s hockey?

I dream of playing ice hockey when I am older every day.  I think women’s hockey should be as common as men’s hockey.
