MEET SKYLAR RUSCHPLER!

Tell us about yourself!

Hi! I’m Skylar and I have been skating since I was walking.  I have played for eight years now, four years with boys and the other four years with girls.  I have two older brothers and they have always pushed me to be as good as them or better.

What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?

I am passionate about the girls game and my parents and brothers have never made me feel like my game would be less strong because I am female.  I want to show the world how girls can be just as dominant as boys.

What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?

Having a larger platform to share my hockey journey as a girl to help promote the game and break down barriers for girls in sports.

What’s something not a lot of people know about you?

I practice almost every single day of the year even if it’s just shooting pucks in the driveway. I enjoy it and have never considered it work.  I love all sports and want to be as good as I can be at everything I try.  I can also solve the rubik’s cube in less than a minute now, lol!

If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?

Natalie Spooner because she is a great role model who matches her skills with a great personality and a true love for the game and gives back as much as the game has given her.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?

Forget any negatives the boys or the boys coaches say, or any player or parent.  Believe in yourself and enjoy the game because that’s what will make you as good as you can be.

What’s your dream for women’s hockey?

To have a league to play in where I can call hockey a career and not just a hobby.
