MEET JESSICA WITHER!
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Jessica Wither and I’m from Neepawa, Manitoba. I have been playing hockey for 13 years and have been playing AAA/elite level hockey for six years. I graduated high school in June and I have committed to play college hockey in the US with Dakota College in the fall!
What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?
I chose to be a WHL Brand Ambassador because I want to be an inspiration to girls who have dreams of a future in hockey but have had setbacks along the way. I want to show younger girls that they can achieve anything if they set their minds to it and that there are so many amazing memories and friendships that can be made through this great game.
What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?
What I am looking forward to most as a WHL ambassador is being a role model to the up and comers and seeing other girls get as excited as I get when I step on the ice. Hockey holds so many opportunities and I want to see more girls take advantage of those opportunities and really fall in love with the game like I have.
What’s something not a lot of people know about you?
One thing most people don’t know about me is that I can speak in several different accents and that I am partially deaf in my left ear!
If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?
I would probably choose to have a meal with Natalie Spooner because she is so successful and I’ve always looked up to her as a player and as a person growing up.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?
The best advice I have ever been given is “Work hard and be kind because that will get you far in life”.
What’s your dream for women’s hockey?
My dream for women’s hockey is that more opportunities will continue to open up and that there will be a league where women get paid like an NHL player.
