Meet Jessica Pollard!

Tell us about yourself!

I am from Milton, Ontario and I have been playing hockey since I was eight years old. I am currently playing for the Toronto Leaside Jr. Wildcats in the PWHL. Previously I have played for the Hamilton Hawks, Stoney Creek Sabres, North Halton Twisters and the Milton Winterhawks (boys).

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE A WHL BRAND AMBASSADOR?

I want to be able to grow the game of female hockey across Canada and internationally and show young athletes, especially females, that there is a world being created for them in sport!

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AS A #WHLAMBASSADOR?

Helping to grow the game as well as learn from all ages why they believe females being involved in sports is so important, and what it could mean for the future of female athletics.

WHAT’S SOMETHING NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I also train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and I can wakeboard!

IF YOU COULD SIT DOWN AND HAVE DINNER WITH ONE FEMALE HOCKEY PLAYER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Jocelyne Larocque — she is an amazing role model for me and so many other female hockey players. I have idolized her for a long time and I will continue to do so throughout my career. I had the pleasure of having Jocelyne as one of my coaches while I was playing in Hamilton!

WHAT’S YOUR DREAM FOR WOMEN’S HOCKEY?

I would love if hockey wasn’t a side job or “just for fun” career. I want these talented female hockey players making a salary so they will be able to live a comfortable life without needing another job. I want women to get the same coverage as the men do because we are talented and that side of sport is so important to see the equality and how our society is developing.
