MEET AVA!

Tell us about yourself!

My name is Ava and I am from Markham, Ontario, Canada. I started playing hockey when I was 6 years old. I was a competitive dancer and soccer player and when I went to the arena to watch my brother’s games, I realized that I wanted to play hockey too.

What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?

I want to share my love for the game of hockey with the hockey community around the world. I want to help other young female athletes grow to love the game.

What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?

I am looking forward to helping represent Women’s Hockey Life in my community and around North America.

What’s something not a lot of people know about you?

I love animals! I have two fur babies at home, Sophie and Luna. When I am watching women’s hockey or any NHL games on TV, my two fur babies are always watching with me.

If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?

I would love to sit down and have dinner with Sarah Nurse. She is my favourite hockey player. She has won a gold medal representing Canada. She has also overcome huge things as a minority. I am mixed and my mom is Chinese-Vietnamese and I want other girls to have the same opportunity.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?

To dream big but to set small goals that I can achieve along the way.

What’s your dream for women’s hockey?

I dream that there is a strong professional league for women to play in like the NHL. I don’t think it’s fair that there is a league for the boys/men.
