Meet Victoria Bruni!

Tell us about yourself!

My name is Victoria Bruni. I’m originally from Queens, NY but I’ve lived in Las Vegas, NV for the past five years. I am a police officer in Las Vegas. I grew up around hockey; my dad played and officiated. I remember growing up going to local rinks where my dad was reffing. I also remember going to many NHL games as a kid, especially the Rangers. Once I moved to Las Vegas and they announced a brand new NHL franchise, I immediately put a deposit down for what became the Vegas Golden Knights.

After season two, I officially enrolled in a Women’s “Learn to Play” program at City National Arena, the practice facility for the Golden Knights. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with playing. I play two to three times a week and am a member of three different teams. I am a founding member of my police department’s hockey team which will play its inaugural season in September. I am also in a local co-ed league and have recently joined a team called the “Golden Girls”, which is a local, all-female team.

What made you want to be a WHL Brand ambassador?

As a female police officer and hockey player, I’m used to being in the minority. Being in Las Vegas, very few people play hockey, let alone women. Being a female police officer, I’m often surrounded by men in my profession. Women’s Hockey Life stands for empowerment and I have found that through hard work and dedication, my gender becomes the last thing my peers notice about me. I am an equal. WHL is working hard to shed light on the great brand of hockey that women are bringing to the sport. Women work hard, have fun and support each other, which is exactly the same model that WHL emulates—WHL mirrors the great qualities that women’s hockey possesses.

What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?

I am looking forward to continuing to grow the sport in areas that don’t have the same exposure to hockey. Living in Las Vegas, outside of the Golden Knights’ following, many people don’t play hockey. I am hoping that I can expose more of the community to playing the sport, especially young girls. It is my goal to be a role model for young girls and even adults who are on the fence about taking up the sport. I want them to know that if I can do it, so can they.

What’s something not a lot of people know about you? 

I’ve always wanted to learn how to play an instrument. I used to sit at home on my keyboard and teach myself how to play songs. I still try and do it when I have the time. My goal is to take lessons one day for piano and guitar – I just love music!

If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?

I would have dinner with Amanda Kessel. I have a few pieces of clothing from her Gongshow Gear line that I like to wear to and from hockey. She’s currently an ambassador for women’s hockey partnered with my hometown New York Rangers. I also follow her social media and she seems like a really down to earth human being. She seems like a person I would definitely get along with and have a good time.
