Meet McKenna Albisser!

Tell us about yourself!

Hi! My name’s McKenna Albisser or Kenna for short and I’m 14 years old. I’m from Chilliwack B.C and I’ve been playing hockey since I was three years old. I started off on a boys team and just this year I started playing for an all girls team in a different city and I absolutely love it!

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE A WHL BRAND AMBASSADOR?

I want to be an ambassador because I want to help spread my love and passion for the game throughout my city and throughout my province, hopefully the future of women’s hockey in BC will be bright.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AS A #WHLAMBASSADOR?

I’m looking forward to meeting new people who love the game as much as I do and representing such an amazing and supportive organization.

WHAT’S SOMETHING NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?

Not a lot of people know that I’m a twin and my sister is my biggest supporter. I actually really enjoy watching her gymnastics even though most of the time I’ll probably complain about having to watch it.

IF YOU COULD SIT DOWN AND HAVE DINNER WITH ONE FEMALE HOCKEY PLAYER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

If I could sit down with one female hockey player it would probably be Shannon Szabados because even though I’m not a goalie she has always been a HUGE inspiration to me and her mindset is something I try to put into all my games.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN IN HOCKEY OR IN LIFE?

The best advice I’ve been given is to stop watching other people during tryouts and to always push yourself the hardest at the end of a game or at the end of a drill in practice.

WHAT’S YOUR DREAM FOR WOMEN’S HOCKEY?

My dream for women’s hockey is that it gets the same recognition as men’s hockey and it will be affordable for young girls so they don’t miss out on different opportunities.
