Today (March 1, 2023) – the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association’s (PWHPA) announced the nominees for its first ever season award ceremony, presented by Thundercat Technology, Dell Technologies and Leidos. The 2022-23 season PWHPA award winners will be announced this Saturday evening, March 4th, at 7:30 p.m. in Washington, DC. The nominees and award winners in the following categories have been voted on by PWHPA players:
- Coach of the Year presented by Sobey’s
- Goaltender of the Year presented by Scotiabank
- Defender of the Year presented by Tim Hortons
- Forward of the Year presented by Air Canada
In addition to the above categories, the PWHPA will also award a Humanitarian Award, presented by Canadian Tire, to the player who, in addition to outstanding hockey skills, promotes the sport of hockey through their community, school and/or other avenues. This award is limited to players and goalies only.
The nominees, as voted by the players, are as follows:
Coach of the Year presented by Sobeys: Kori Cheverie (Team Harvey’s), Dean Seymore (Team Scotiabank), Laura McIntosh (Team Sonnet), Matt Leitner (Team adidas)
Goaltender of the Year presented by Scotiabank: Ann-Renée Desbiens (Team Harvey’s), Nicole Hensley (Team Sonnet), Maddie Rooney (Team adidas), Kristen Campbell (Team Scotiabank)
Defender of the Year presented by Tim Hortons: Savannah Harmon (Team Harvey’s), Ella Shelton (Team Scotiabank), Lee Stecklein (Team Harvey’s), Megan Keller (Team Scotiabank)
Forward of the Year presented by Air Canada: Blayre Turnbull (Team Scotiabank), Alex Carpenter (Team Scotiabank), Marie-Philip Poulin (Team Harvey’s), Rebecca Johnston (Team Scotiabank)
