Tell us about yourself!

I’m Kayla Boyd and I live in Michigan at the moment and most likely soon to be Texas. I’m currently in high school and I began playing hockey at the age of eight in Dallas, Texas and soon moved to Michigan and played on a girls U14 A team as an 11 year old. Then, I moved to Florida where I played boys’ hockey for about two years. At one point, I was barely ever allowed to play due to my coach not liking girls in the sport of hockey, but it never stopped me from trying my best. I now live in Michigan again and the past year I played for Nashville girls’ hockey AA U17 team and am currently going to try out for Dallas elite in Texas.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE A WHL BRAND AMBASSADOR?

I wanted to be an ambassador because it’s a great brand—girls need more representation in this game and this is exactly what this brand supports.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AS A #WHLAMBASSADOR?

Extending my hockey family and meeting other girls just like me.

WHAT’S SOMETHING NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?

Hockey is my main sport but not my only sport—I also play soccer and compete in gymnastics. I have also lived all over the world in places such as Japan & Africa.

IF YOU COULD SIT DOWN AND HAVE DINNER WITH ONE FEMALE HOCKEY PLAYER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Either Kendall Coyne or Hilary Knight because they’re amazing and breaking barriers as we speak.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN IN HOCKEY OR IN LIFE?

That you’re only ever guaranteed now, so play like it’s your last game.

WHAT’S YOUR DREAM FOR WOMEN’S HOCKEY?

To have it equally as represented as men’s hockey is.
