MEET ANNABELLA!

Tell us about yourself!

I’m originally from Windsor, Ontario, but moved to North Bay when I was 8. I’ve been passionate about watching hockey since I was a baby. My mom said whenever a National Anthem was on I sang along! My dad played for the Belle River Canadians and has a deep love of hockey that he past along to me. Currently, I play U15AA/U18AA for the North Bay Junior Lakers.

What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?

What motivated me to become a WHL Brand Ambassador is the desire to contribute positively to women’s/girls’ hockey. I hope to set an example for any player, emphasizing that giving it a try is a great idea. Additionally, I want to demonstrate to girls in my community that playing intensely in competitive girls’ hockey and achieving success is possible through hard work both on and off the ice.

What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?

I’m excited about being a WHL ambassador to connect and converse with girls just like me. For instance, those who share similar life goals, a constant desire for improvement, training together, and aspiring to be healthy teenagers and adults.

What’s something not a lot of people know about you?

Something people don’t know about me is that I also love to play competitive soccer for North Bay. We have expanded the game in the area with a competitive league that began with hardworking girls and coaches determined to provide us with great opportunities.

If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why

If I could sit down with any player, it would be Hayley Wickenheiser. I would love to talk to her about the adversity she faced while growing up, loving hockey, playing with boys, yet still competing at a high level, and having to play with older players to continue developing herself.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?

Best advice I’ve ever been given is; “Work hard, be dedicated and great opportunities and experiences will come.”

What’s your dream for women’s hockey?

My dream for women’s hockey would be for the new PWHL to have all hockey lovers appreciate the game and attend the games to fuel the passion for players. We now have a place where we can truly play when we grow up!
