MEET EMILY!
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Emily, and I am from Niagara Falls, Ontario. I am a current university student studying to become a teacher as I have a passion for empowering children and youth. When I am not studying, I can be found on the ice as number 13. I have been playing hockey since I was 4 years old. From a young age, I grew a love for the sport. I began my hockey journey playing with boys until my parents decided to switch me over to girls’ hockey for the St. Catharines Jr. Badgers. That change turned out to be the best thing they could’ve done because it not only allowed me to develop my skills in a more supportive environment but also led to the formation of long-lasting friendships within the girls’ hockey community.
What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?
I wanted to become a Women’s Hockey Life Ambassador because it is an opportunity for individuals like myself who have a passion for women’s hockey to actively contribute to the sport’s growth and advocate for equalities in the game. Ambassadors play a crucial role in building a sense of community among women hockey players and fans. By sharing personal experiences, celebrating achievements, and collaborating with Women’s Hockey Life, ambassadors contribute to the positive narrative surrounding women’s hockey. Ultimately, I am honoured to be a part of the #WHLAMBASSADOR team!
What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?
I am excited to meet other women hockey players and hear about their hockey stories!
What’s something not a lot of people know about you?
My superstition is that my right skate has to go on before my left skate.
If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?
Within women’s hockey there are many accomplished and inspirational female hockey players, making it challenging to only choose one. However, I would pick former Canadian ice hockey player Hayley Wickenheiser. Having dinner with Wickenheiser would provide an opportunity to hear about her experiences, insights into the growth of women’s hockey, and her perspective on the challenges and triumphs she faced throughout her remarkable career. This would make her a compelling figure to engage in conversation!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?
Over the years, I am thankful to have been given lots of great advice from parents, coaches, and mentors. However, one that stands out to me is to never say no to an opportunity, each one can open a new door.
What’s your dream for women’s hockey?
My dream for women’s hockey is to see it achieve the same opportunities as men’s hockey, ensuring equality at every level of the sport. With the new development of the Professional Women’s Hockey League, we are on the right track!
