MEET KAELA LOVVORN!

Tell us about yourself!

My name is Kaela Lovvorn and I am from San Jose, California. When I went to my first hockey game when I was eight years old, I instantly fell in love with the game. Originally I wanted to be a figure skater because I had never seen a woman playing hockey before, but then I saw the US women’s national team during the 2018 Olympics and I found out about the NWHL. Ever since then, I have dreamed about playing professional hockey. I started playing hockey two years ago.

What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?

I wanted to be a WHL ambassador because I am very passionate about growing the game and I want to show other girls that they can play hockey too.

What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?

I am looking forward to helping other girls get into hockey, promoting women’s hockey, and helping to grow the game!

What’s something not a lot of people know about you?

Not a lot of people know that I want to go to college for nursing and that one day I want to create a women’s hockey program in the Philippines to help improve women’s hockey in the Philippines.

If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?

If I could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player it would probably be Manon Rhéaume because she is so inspiring and is a trailblazer for women’s hockey. I have read her book and I think she would have a lot of great stories to tell about her time playing hockey.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?

The best advice I’ve been given is to always put 100% into whatever you are doing and to never give up.

What’s your dream for women’s hockey?

My dream for women’s hockey is that one day professional women’s hockey players will receive a living wage from just playing hockey, that one day the NWHL will have a television deal, and for women’s hockey (and hockey in general) to become more diverse.
