We are into the second half of the season now and things are going great so far. We swept the University of British Columbia and Lethbridge and we played U of Calgary this weekend and managed to sweep them as well! The first game against U of C went into a shoot out and it was a very intense game. Both teams were battling hard right till the end. Wickenheiser got hurt in the third period when she had a mid-ice collision with one of our players and she didn’t come back for the rest of the game. Nonetheless, we took home the win both nights this weekend which pulled us away from the pack slightly. Right now, every game in the second half must be played as though it is playoff hockey because like I said before, the top four teams are all within a couple of points! Since Calgary is one of the top four, these wins were absolutely essential this weekend!!
Our team is really coming together and we are playing some awesome hockey! We have three players, including myself that came back from serious injuries after Christmas and it just made our lineup that much stronger. In the first half we had defencemen playing our positions because we lacked forwards, so it makes a huge difference for sure.
We are going into a bye weekend this coming weekend and we are currently sitting in first place. We have a couple of big weekends coming up and it is hard to believe that the second half is almost over. Our objective is to keep playing hard and battling each and every game to finish off the regular season in first place and get home ice advantage in playoffs.
I’ll keep you posted on what’s happening during playoffs!
