TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!

My name is Abby Burokas and I started playing hockey shortly after my fourth birthday.  I am seven years old and I am a second grader. I am a goalie. I currently play on a boys’ mite travel team, the Sabres, near Chicago.  I just made team 1!  I am also on a spring/summer AAA team, Wade Warriors and will play two tournaments in Boston this summer! I am on the CCM selects team here in Chicago.

I have been lucky enough to meet Kendall Coyne, Hillary Knight, Alex Rigsby, and Katie FitzGerald at the camps I have attended. In addition to hockey, I play soccer, lacrosse, and do Spartan Races. I want to be on be on Team USA one day and win a gold medal.

What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?

I love hockey and love any opportunity to share my love with others, especially other young girls!

What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?

I look forward to gaining knowledge and insight from the community.  I also look forward to attending events and spreading the word!

What’s something not a lot of people know about you?

I love to fish. I also love super heroes.

If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?

There are so many to choose from, but probably Katie Fitzgerald of the Metropolitan Riveters. She is a goalie, she won the Isobel Cup, and I could learn so much from her.  She is a nice person and is very inspiring.  I got to meet her at a camp before and she was such a great coach!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?

Work hard, have fun, and enjoy the game.

What’s your dream for women’s hockey?

I want to see the sport continue to grow and eventually have a women’s league as big as the NHL. Also, maybe seeing a woman one day win the Stanley Cup.
