Happy October, and more importantly happy hockey season to all; its been way too long, but it feels great to be back! I hope everyone is doing well, and excited for another great season of hockey.
First, I’d like to mention that I have begun a new chapter, and will be playing for the Boston Blades, in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League this year. It is a great honor to have been drafted, and I cannot wait for this journey to begin.
Post graduation from Northeastern University this past May I could have told you that I never expected to play hockey again. After many messages from friends and the General Manager of the Blades, I decided to give this professional opportunity a go. California was calling my name, but I also new that my time in Boston was not done yet; especially getting the chance to play in Beantown again alongside a great group of gals. So, I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Sports Leadership from Northeastern University, working as an assistant director to the assistant director in our athletic facilities and event services, and continuing the hockey dream. Overall, life is great, and I cannot complain!
Our season begins this weekend, as we depart for Toronto for a two game serious against the Furies on Saturday and Sunday. Up until this point the team has just been practicing on a weekly basis, and preparing for the season to get underway. Our practices fall on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and we will be playing one or two games a weekend. Since there are four Canadian teams in our league we will be clocking in quite a bit of travel time… which only means more team bonding right? Love it! On October 1st we played our first exhibition game against the New England Eagles. It was definitely a great game (out scoring our opponent 9-4) but an even better cause, honoring the 22 Veterans on average who commit suicide in the United States.
In addition to the game we also had a team kickoff party at T’s Pub on Comm Ave. Great way to get our fans and team interacting with each other! Last week Winter Adams lead a team yoga session, definitely recommend yoga for hockey players 😉
Another exciting event that we hosted was our first annual Blades golf tournament at the William J Devine Golf Course. It served as a fundraiser to the team, and also gave some of the players a chance to golf with a few of our sponsors.
I hope all of our Canadians had an amazing Thanksgiving, and I look forward to keeping you updated soon!
