Happy New Year everyone!
I hope you all enjoyed the holidays with friends and family. I was able to go home for a fantastic 10 days before heading off to Austria and Germany to represent Canada at the Nations Cup with the NWDT. Going into the competition the goal for the team was to come home with gold-which we were able to do in a 4-0 win in the final versus Sweden. Although we accomplished our goal in the tournament, some of the highlights for me during this amazing experience were not the gold medal game. First of all, I was able to share this amazing experience with a bunch of my current and former Boston University teammates with Sarah Lefort, Victoria Bach, Louise Warren and Kaleigh Fratkin. Being able to represent Canada with some of my closest friends was the cherry on top of an already incredible experience.
Along with having some of my terriers battling along side me all competition and enjoying the beautiful landscapes of both Austria and Germany, I have to admit that one of the biggest highlights of the trip was playing against Germany’s national team in Germany. The arena we played in was completely sold out and the design of the arena was completely unique. They had seating above the benches, were fans could bang on the roofs that sheltered the benches and had seating wrapped around the entire rink. With such close seating being completely sold out the atmosphere was amazing! Even when we began to pull away from Germany the crowd and the team itself never gave up hope at all-it was awesome to play such an energized game from start to finish. Finally, I was so blessed to have my parents come watch me play in Germany and Austria, it is hard to describe how much it means to players to see their parents in the stands at games. Especially as we get older and we can begin to appreciate how much our family’s do for us to help us reach our goals and dreams. Having my parents make the journey acorss the world with me was more than I could have ever hoped for and it made the whole experience perfect for me. Being surrounded by friends, family and getting to share everything with all of them was an experience I will never forget.
Until next time!
