Well one of the best perks of college is that summer is four months long! However, it sure does fly by. My days consist of: following our team workout, keeping up to date on team emails, working, and then fitting in time for family and friends. It’s actually hard to believe it’s almost June!
One of the best perks of being a college athlete is that there is usually at least one or two people from your team or that you know that live in your vicinity. For me, I live in Ontario and live between five minutes to six hours from ten of my teammates! (Not including the incoming freshmen, or the ten other student-athletes) This means in the summer we continually road-trip to different places in Ontario for big gatherings. For example, the Canadian long weekend was spent in the Muskoka’s at a teammates cottage, Canada day is spent in Ottawa, Bayfest (the ultimate country concert) is spent in Sarnia, and much more.
As for hockey, the biggest news happened last week when our coach told us he was given the opportunity to coach Women’s Ice Hockey at Ohio State University. Our team will definitely miss him, his hard work, and his dedication. However, this is part of being a college-athlete, at any point you may lose your coach, your trainer, a teammate. The important thing is to stay positive and keep moving forward with determination and perseverance, as a unit.
Hope everyone’s enjoying the beginning of summer and hopefully this weather picks up!
