Hello Blog Followers,
It’s hard to believe that the month of February is already here but with that being said, it means that playoffs are quickly approaching. This weekend coming up (February 7th and 8th) is the last regular season games being played for the NAIT Women’s Hockey Team. Being up against Grant MacEwan, this weekend is going to be huge and it means a lot. Whoever comes out on top will be first place and get an automatic bye to the 2013-2014 Championship Final. As of right now, MacEwan is sitting ahead of us by one point so we are really eager and anxious to steal a few points from them.
This past weekend we had the weekend off since we played Thursday/Friday but we still managed to have some team time where we did some team building activities then had supper together afterwards. As a team, we did a scavenger hunt around the NAIT area that was made up by our coaching staff and it was a lot of fun and everyone bought in. We managed to complete the tasks in a short amount of time and our coaches were quite impressed! WOO! After all of our activities took place, we all went back to my place and had a potluck supper where each person brought something to eat… so you can only imagine the amount of food that was there. Two words, food baby. To end the night, Nikki Dunlop (she wanted a name drop) downloaded Ellen’s new app called "Heads Up" and it was one heck of a time. Her and I got super intense with it…. so intense that we were sweating and needed to take breaks. I recommend that everyone download this game, sooooo fun!
Also on the weekend we had our Alumni Night where we all went to Boston Pizza after our Friday night game and had supper while also playing a few games. It was a great night to see past players of the Ooks and have them socialize with the current players. Our Women’s Hockey Alumni group is just starting up and things are looking bright for the future. This is such a good way for players to stay in contact and always be a part of the Ook family :)!
This next month is going to be super busy and it’s also going to be filled with lots of emotions. Playoffs are a whole new season and the intensity and emotions rise majorly. Our team is working hard to get to our end goal, which is an ACAC Championship, but to get there, we have to do the little things we know we need to do, and we have to battle this weekend against MacEwan. It takes one step at a time and with the team we have, the confidence, the determination, the commitment, the passion and the hard work, I know we can do this. Life this month has really been focused on hockey and school. There isn’t really time for anything else especially when playoffs are in the near future. Within my next blog, I hope it is full of great news and I look forward to sharing the end of the season with you all. Until next time…..
