The Philippines has launched its first-ever women’s ice hockey league! Featuring three teams and named the Women’s Philippines Hockey League (WPHL).
It was recently announced that the inaugural season will feature three teams: UBE, Turon, and Pandan. Illeana Venice Jimenez, a 19-year-old forward from the national team, was selected first overall by Turon.

Philippines Women’s National Team – Recent History
The Philippines Women’s National Team, active since 2017, recently won silver at the 2024 IIHF Women’s Asia and Oceania Cup.
In 2017, the Philippines made its international debut at the IIHF Women’s Challenge Cup of Asia in Bangkok, Thailand.
In 2018, the Philippines participated in the Division I tournament of the IIHF Women’s Challenge Cup of Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, securing third place ahead of India and finishing behind Malaysia (the hosts) and the United Arab Emirates.
The 2019 edition, held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, saw the Philippines clinch the Division I title with a 2-1 victory over the hosts in the final.
The Challenge Cup of Asia was set to take place in Metro Manila in 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the tournament’s cancellation and a temporary hiatus for the national team, with half of the 2019 squad departing.
After a break in 2023, the Philippines returned to the newly named Women’s Asia and Oceania Cup in 2024, proudly finishing as silver medalists.
