Happy New Year, and I hope everybody had a nice holiday spent with family and friends! The pups and I were able to spend time at home for a couple of weeks before we had to report back to campus on December 27th. We had practice mid afternoon, and the following days as well, in preparation to play against Harvard at Frozen Fenway on January 2nd. We were all stoked to be back with the team, and excited to have this unbelievable opportunity. A couple of days before the big game, we had practice at Fenway. It was a cold crisp day, but our excitement was so strong the weather wasn’t even an issue. Our locker room for the day was the visitor’s room, and even that was amazing. I couldn’t begin to imagine what the Red Sox locker room looks like. After a thirty-minute, high intensity practice, we were able to gather around for a few picture before we were taken back to school. The practice alone was definitely an experience to remember. Days go by, and it’s game day at the historic stadium. We had a great team breakfast in our varsity club at Mathews Arena, and we were all getting anxious to arrive at Fenway. The weather, however, was extremely bad that day, so our game was cancelled and instead postponed to Saturday, January 4th at Harvard. Family members flew in from all over the country to watch our game, so while it was a bummer that we could no longer play at this outdoor venue, we were still given the opportunity to practice there. It was still great to see all of the parents and fans come support as at Harvard, as well. The crimson ended up defeating us by a score of 2-3, but it was a very exciting game to be a part of.

Classes started up again that next Monday, so it was now time to get focused back into the everyday routine of classes, lifts, and practices. For the first couple of weeks the campus was quiet, but as all of the huskies started arriving back to school, the atmosphere changed instantly. It was great to see everyone again after a long break. First week of school was enjoyable, but the only thing on my mind was our next games approaching. Saturday, January 11th, and Sunday, January 12th marked two huge games against our Boston rivals. Our next opponent was BC. On Saturday, the pups boarded the bus, and were off to face the Eagles in Chestnut Hill. Another awesome game as each team battled until the end of regulation and overtime. At the end of overtime, the score remained a 1-1 tie. No time for satisfaction as we had a quick turn around the next day. The Eagles traveled to Mathews Arena for the game on Sunday. Another 60 minutes of complete team effort, but the huskies came up short by a score of 2-3.

The second week of school has arrived, and we are given Monday off as a rest and recovery day. On Wednesday, January 15th, the pups will once again board the bus and head to UCONN to battle against the huskies. These two husky teams will battle for the first time of this 2013-14 season. I will update you all next month, but until next blog I hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying 2014!
