North Dakota Making First Ever NCAA Tournament Appearance!

Hello everyone! We are right in the middle of play off hockey here in North Dakota! On Sunday the team found out that we would participate in the program’s first ever NCAA tournament appearance, what a great honor this is! Making the tournament was one of our team goals we put out early in the season, but we aren’t stopping there. We will take on Minnesota this Saturday the 10th in the NCAA quarterfinal game.

Let me catch everyone up to speed with what has happened over the last few weeks. Since I last wrote we traveled to Mankato where we won the first game and tied the second game, not the outcome we wanted, but like always life moves on. Then we traveled to Minnesota where we won in OT the first night and lost the following night. After that we hosted Bemidji in the first round of playoffs, it was a tough battle and they played us very tight. We ended the series in 2 games, which sent us off to Duluth for the WCHA final faceoff where we faced Minnesota and lost in the semifinal game. At the WCHA Final Faceoff, a few of my teammates were recognized for their achievements at an awards banquet. I would like to congratulate everyone on their awards and for all the teams in the WCHA for a great season, and for a great 4 years.

Here is the team at the WCHA Final Faceoff banquet:

We get a second chance to face Minnesota again this coming Saturday. The team is excited for this opportunity to be one of the 8 teams in the country practicing this week. We look forward to the challenges that are ahead of us, like I said in my blog before; we are able to achieve the goals we set out at the beginning of the year. Everything is in our hands. I am very thrilled to be apart of this experience, I won’t lie I have had a hard time focusing on my schoolwork the past few days.

And for the Red Wings—They are still enjoying their usually success, but are suffering some injuries. The playoff run for the NHL is nearing, which is one of my favorite times of the year (there is always a game on TV every night). In my last blog I forget to mention the Red Wings made history by winning 23 straight home games in a row!

Till next time- Go Wings and Go Sioux!
