NAIT Ooks Finish in 1st Place; Fight Breast Cancer

Hello Blog Followers,

March already? I find this to be so crazy! Hockey season is getting closer to being over! (sad face) but so is school (happy face)!

I am going to start this blog off with some pretty awesome news, we finished in first place!!! With that being said, our team made history for the NAIT Ooks Women’s Hockey Team since it was our first ever season where we finished on top! We also set a new record by having the least amount of losses in a season which was 3. Our team can definitely say it was a season to be proud of! We managed to be the only team in the league who did not get swept and we succeeded to finally sweep Red Deer during our last regular season weekend against them. A majority of our team was ranked in the top 20 scorers which shows how much talent we have on our team, it’s great!

Now, we are in a brand new season…. Playoffs!!! Since the Ooks finished in first place, we received an automatic bye to the finals against Red Deer! Our first game in a best of 5 series was played last night (Thursday) which left us taking the first W with a 3-0 win! I want to send a shout out to our goalie Jill Diachuk for getting a shutout and still remaining undefeated! We play this Saturday in Red Deer, then will be back at NAIT next Friday!

February was just an all-around awesome month for our hockey team! We hosted a Breast Cancer game where we wore pink socks, pink laces, pink stick tape, and stickers on our helmets. It was such a great cause to support and our team managed to raise over $5,000.00 which is amazing! We sold t-shirts, had plenty of raffles and held a social at The Ranch! Thank you to everyone who supported and donated, it is very much appreciated!

Now I am going to get a little off of hockey! This Sunday I am attending my first Bier Curling game and I am one excited girl! Thanks to my friend Shannon Szabados, I will be going to watch Team Martin curl on Sunday night with her and Lindsey Brouwer. My team made fun of me because I got pretty intense when watching the Scotties Tournament of Hearts! I am a big Jennifer Jones fan (Manitoba) and I was bragging a lot when she went 11-0 in the round robin! I think I got a little too cocky when she made it to the finals because she ended up losing and I was pouting which managed to make my team make fun of me even more. Oh well, I am over it!

That is pretty much all I have to say for now! I hope when I write my next blog that I can tell you I am an ACAC Champion (fingers crossed)! I hope you all have a great month of March and good luck to all of you who are heading into playoffs!! ?
