What a month it has been! Like I said in my last blog, September is the toughest month to get through with school starting up, hockey beginning and trying to get into our routine.

This month has had the Ooks playing many exhibition games, doing lots of workouts and having a lot of team bonding time. It’s been great! This past weekend we travelled to Vancouver, BC to take on the University of BC Thunderbirds as well as a Junior A women’s hockey team. They were great matches and it allowed our team to learn lots about each other on the ice and also to get us working on our systems. Our hotel was downtown and I woke up to the ocean every morning, it was so beautiful! This was my first time ever being to BC, so now I am no longer a BC virgin!

Our season opener is coming up on October 23rd where we will face the SAIT Trojans. It is going to be an exciting game not only because it is the first regular season game for the Ooks, but our 2013-2014 Championship banner is being raised as well. I am sure that will bring some motivation for our opening game and it will be very exciting to see another banner raised on behalf of our team.

Along with practices and games we are also off-ice training quite a bit. For the 2014-2015 our team has the privilege to work with Heather Osgood, who is a trainer/teacher at Vimy Ridge Hockey Academy. She puts our team through workouts and provides us with workouts to do when we have spare time in our days. It is very beneficial for our team and allows us to work on areas where we may need improvement. Even though we get our butts kicked all the time, it feels pretty good afterwards and it pays off! She makes it super fun which makes the whole butt kicking thing not too bad!

This upcoming weekend is our team retreat. Only the coaches know where we are going as of right now but we are all eager to find out where we will be heading. For our retreat, we do a lot of team activities that allows us to come together as a team off the ice and work together to overcome certain obstacles. Goal setting is something we do on a weekend like this so we know our focuses for the upcoming season and where we want to be and how we are going to get there.

That is all I have for now. I look forward to sharing the month of October with you as our season officially kicks off and I can fill you in on that! ?
