Middlebury Welcomes In New Year With A Bang!

I hope Santa Clause treated you all well! (and Hanukah Harry as our freshman Jenn Krakower would add)

Our season started off well as we headed back home for the holidays with a 6-0 record. Over break, team emails filled our inboxes with anything from funny stories to words of encouragement as we braved our home gyms away from the team for the first time this season. When the 27th came, we were all ready to come back to our home at Middlebury. Sadly, with the huge snowstorm on the east coast only ten of our players made it back for our first practice—three of which were goalies I might add! I’m happy to report that our team is fully in tact and excited as we gear up for the Cardinal/Panther Classic held in Plattsburgh. We will be playing our first game against Elmira, while Plattsburgh takes on Amherst. This was my favorite weekend last year as we come off a long break

to play in a tournament with some of the top ranked teams in the country. The hockey is sure to be fast and physical with lots of excitement!

Before we face off in Plattsburgh, we had to welcome the New Year with a bang! Our whole team headedover to Bill’s (Coach) house on New Year’s Eve where we had dinner and watched HBO’s 24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the NHL Winter Classic!! If you haven’t watched it yet, I STRONGLY recommend it! After we celebrated with a delicious dinner including the annual appearance of our beloved pigs in a blanket, we headed home to get to bed relatively early and wake up in 2011.

What better way to spend New Year’s Day than in the rink? After practicing in the morning, we ate (a favorite activity for our team) and headed back to the rink to support our men’s team as they took on Skidmore. Even though school is not in session yet, Kenyon Arena was still packed…townies live for Middlebury Hockey! After the men’s game it was more hockey as we watched the Pens and Caps play in the 2011 Winter Classic. After a long day of hockey, we’re all excited to make the short trip to Plattsburgh and start the next part of our season in 2011.

Happy New Year!
