Happy fall ladies and gentlemen!
I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful colors this time of year. Let me begin by saying the 2013-14 season is officially underway! As our captain’s practices came to an end, our first official practices and games started up at Mathews Arena. Our first exhibition game took place on September 29th against McGill. The huskies concluded that game with a 1-0 win!
The next weekend officially marked the start of the season as we hosted Syracuse and RIT. Not only was it the start to our season, but it was also parents weekend. As everybody’s parents started arriving in Beantown, the pups began to get more and more excited to play in front of their biggest fans. BUT on top of that, it was also a huge day for the huskies. The Northeastern University women’s ice hockey team was recently given a Team Impact match. For those of you who are not aware with Team Impact, it is a program that matches children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses with a collegiate athletic team. The purpose of this program is to create a special bond and relationship between the individual and team. The experience as a whole will create strength, support, inspiration, and perspective between each team member and the individual. Before our game against Syracuse on Friday, October 4th the Northeastern Women’s ice hockey team drafted Marianne Mahoney, a 15 year old from Newton. With a written contract, a #15 Mahoney jersey, and a stall in our locker room Marianne has officially joined the pups. We are incredibly excited to have the Mahoney family join our husky family. Here is a link for a more extensive version of our big draft day.
We ended up losing by a score of 1-4 to Syracuse. After a quick turn around, and a good nights sleep the huskies put up a fight on Saturday to beat the Tigers 5-4. As a whole, our home opening weekend was a success.
This brings me to where I am right now. The pups and I are currently on the bus heading back into the city. Our first road trip consisted of a nice trip to New York to play Union and RPI. We left Boston on Thursday afternoon to arrive to our hotel in the evening. With a couple of surprises for the freshman and positive energy, the few hour road trip flew by. As the pups gathered for team meals and team bonding we were ready for the weekend. The first game of the weekend was on Friday, October 11th against Union, and the second game being on Saturday, October 12th against RPI. Close games to say the least, but the huskies came out with a 2-1 win over the Dutchmen and Red Hawks, or Puckman. Two wins for the weekend equal a happy bus back to Boston! Hoping for another happy bus on the way home from Cornell next weekend!
Until next time hockey fans,
