Hockey Season has Finally Started!

Hockey season has finally started! It feels so good to be back on the ice; I missed skating every day and being with my team. We started off the season with five practices packed into three days so needless to say I am a little sore, but it’s a good sore! 🙂 Practices have been going good so far-we are doing a lot of drills to work on our puck handling skills and our passing. We have also been doing a lot of skating because we have a shorter bench this year so conditioning is going to be big for us. We have our first game against Utica on October 29th and we have a lot of work to do, but everyone has been working really hard and I can’t wait to play. I do have to say the highlight of the weekend, other than actually being on the ice, was getting back into our locker room. I know it sounds stupid to get so excited over something so simple; however, knowing that my gear is going to be dry the next time I put it on, my dormroom is not going to stink anymore, and I don’t have to drag my gear back and forth is so sweet!

Even though being back on the ice has been fantastic, my life has become a little crazy. I am one of the student athletic trainers for the volleyball team here at Castleton so now I have a volleyball practice and a hockey practice that I have to be at every day. And just my luck they usually overlap each other so I feel like I am always rushing to one or the other. Working with the volleyball team has been a lot of fun. We don’t have many injuries to work with, but the girls are awesome and I love the people I work with. I even had my first serious injury and my first trip to the emergency room; however, it was the coach (who is also my hockey coach) who had the injury so I am not sure it counts haha just kidding coach!! The good news for my school work is that my schedule will only be like this for a few more weeks then volleyball will be over and I can focus more on hockey.

Until next time!
