Great Britain U18’s Fail to Qualify for World Championships

Earlier on this month we had a qualifications tournament for world championships in Switzerland, with GB U18s.  It was a great week! We started off the week with a 7-1 win over China.  We then faced Italy, which was a rough game and we picked up several injuries.  This was my last game of the week as I sprained my a/c joint during the second period meaning I was out of hockey for 3-5 weeks, we won the game in the end 3-0. Our next game would be one of the toughest games of the week against France, who were also undefeated so far.  It was a close game but we ended up losing 3-2 to them. We then went on to beat kazakhstan 6-1. It came down to the final game whether we qualified or not.  We were up against Slovakia who we were tied on points with so whoever won went through.  In the end, we lost 4-3.  It was a close game and the girls showed great determination and worked hard until the end. We had great support in the crowds with teams Italy, China and Kazakhstan all cheering for us.

The following week the Seniors went off to China for pre-olympic qualifications which I could not attend because of my injury.  They ended up losing 7-0 to France in their first game, then lost to China 5-0 but ended with a 2-1 win against the Netherlands.  Everyone I’ve spoken to on the team said it was an interesting trip and the food was also interesting.

I am now back playing after my injury and am fully recovered after 3 weeks of physio and treatments.  It was hard to watch the games and not be able to play, but I was proud of how the girls play and did a bit of cheering whilst I was there 🙂
