Us UND hockey players are getting right back into the swing of the regular season. With a full week of practices and two game series during the weekend, we are back in action like never before. We started off with two out of conference games. Our first game was against RPI, and we were ready to play. Coming out on top, we beat them 7-1 and we could not have been more excited with the result. That first game brought back the game day feelings of intensity, excitement, and competitiveness you feel during a game. The next night we got the opportunity to play Vermont. They were fresh and ready to play, having complications with their travels; we were their first team to play. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the job done. Although we put forth our best efforts, we had some breakdowns that cost us a 3-1 loss. Nonetheless, we learned our lesson and went hard in practice that next week.
This past weekend was our first road trip and WCHA series of the season. After a split the past weekend we were more than ready to take control of this series against Mankato. Coming out ready to play, we took advantage of every opportunity presented to us in the game. With a stellar performance by Meghan Dufault and her hat trick, we won 5-0. The next day was a slower start, but battling through it we came out on top again with a 2-1 for the sweep. Each game gave us some learning opportunities and gave us the chance to work on our systems and overall game as a team.
This coming weekend we will see Minnesota-Duluth on our home ice. We have had a very competitive history with this team, and nothing makes us more excited then playing intense games. Our week of practice and workouts will consist of nothing but hard work to prepare us for this aggressive weekend. Last season we saw Duluth four times, beating them twice in regulation, once in a shootout, and one shootout lose. With those results being said this weekend’s series will be nothing short of a battle between both teams. To add to the excitement we will be wearing pink jerseys this weekend in support of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month. With this being only our second WCHA series it is important we make our mark early and show people what UND hockey is about this season. The tenacity we bring to the ice will lead us to the results we work for, and we have no doubts about that!
