Despite Frigid Weather in Winnipeg, Bisons Stay Hot

Despite the cold, frigid weather in Winnipeg, the Bisons women’s hockey team continued to stay hot on the ice and surge through the second half of the season, clenching a fourth place finish in Canada West and home ice for the first round of playoffs. The Bisons were able to complete three weekend sweeps as well as notch three overtime wins in dramatic fashion.

Off the ice, things have remained equally as exciting for the herd. The newly concocted Monday “activity day” is a chance to put our vim and vigor to use and show off our competitive flair off the ice. Pool day was a thrill for all; the Bisons headed down to the Frank Kennedy pool in a large assortment of bathing apparel and put on quite the aquatic show. A diving competition ensued and Bunny’s cannonball left her red in the cheeks. We also had an intsense dodge ball match between our prestigious team houses – Rempleclaw, Peterspuff, Dunadoor, and Votherin.

More exciting news comes from Bison alumnae Nellie Minshull, who gave birth to a little 8-pound bundle of fun, Stevie Joy Marie Smith. Stevie’s already rocking a full head of hair and by the looks of her hands they will be as soft and dangle worthy as her mom’s. Congrats from your Bison family Nel!!

The Bisons are diligently preparing for playoffs this week for their best of three series versus the Regina Cougars at the Wayne Fleming Arena. We will be making all the hard work and dedication that we’ve put into the weightroom and on the ice count for the most important weekend of the season. Come on down to Wayne Fleming Arena this weekend to catch the action and cheer on the herd!!
