Hello from Sapporo, Japan,
Today has marked the first day of our journey, although in reality it took almost 30 hours to complete. We have safely arrived in Japan and the first group of girls are on our way to the rink/hotel and the second group will meet up with us when their flight arrives.
My day began at 6am in Montreal. It was time for last minute goodbyes and packing and finally we were off. Our flight to Toronto was short and sweet and due to a delay in departing, we had a shorter layover. We essentially had time to grab a last Tim Hortons bagel before being called to board the plane.
I have never been on a plane for more than 11 hours, so the 13 hour plane ride seemed rather daunting. I kept myself busy by playing Tiny Wings and Angry Birds and by watching 4 movies and a few T.V. shows. We finally made it to Tokyo and what a site it was. From what we saw at the airport, Japan is a tidy and proper country because the floor at the airport was so clean you could eat off them.
In Tokyo, we had some time to walk around the airport and get something to eat. The food we had was delicious and I was able to eat my entire meal with chop-sticks, with ease. We still had one more flight to complete day 1: Tokyo to Sapporo. I don’t remember any of it, I passed out since it had been over 24 hours since I woke up, and I slept maybe 2 hours on the plane previously.
I’m going to try and sleep some more as we make our way to the rink to drop off our equipment before going to the hotel. Tomorrow, we finally hit the ice! More to come!
