I figured since it is Reading Week and my first blog was mostly an introduction to me, I would write a second one and keep you guys up to date on Stinger life at the moment.
Firstly, let me just say a huge THANK YOU for Reading Week. The extra time to sleep in, catch up/get a head start on homework and to relax is much appreciated, especially with the playoffs beginning this week. Personally, I have begun writing my huge end-of-semester essay and studying for my post-break midterm. But, I’ve also made some time for fun with my teammates (did anyone say catching up on Glee and eating gummy bears?)
During our final weekend of the regular season, we lost in a shootout to Carleton, but the single point earned was enough for us to clinch third place. Despite the loss, we played a good game and were able to transfer the huge amount of momentum from the crowd into our play. I think it was the biggest crowd we played in front of all year. Special thanks to the Concordia Men’s Rugby team who showed up with face paint, noisemakers, and drums! They parked themselves in a very strategic point (behind the Carleton bench) in the arena and did not move or stop for the entire game.
The day after, we went to close out the regular season against McGill. As always, it was a tough battle against the top teamin the country and although we did lose, but there were many positives taken from the game heading into the playoffs.
Our post season quest begins on Wednesday, February 23 at Universite de Montreal. We took the season series against them 3-2, but all the games we played were close, as we are two evenly matched teams. I’m most looking forward to the increased intense of playoff hockey and the rush you get from stepping on the ice to begin “the second season.” As per my unique hockey traditions and routines, I’ve got a new set of laces on, I re-taped the top of my stick and I’m ready for the post-season.
Best of luck to everyone in their respected series.
