Season has officially begun for our team with two weekends of games. Our first weekend November 1st and 2nd was a clean sweep against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos. The first game we shut them out 3-0 and then the second game we won again, but this time the score was 9-2.
Megan Buchanan (senior #39) earned her first shutout of the season Saturday night and was named goaltender of the week for ECAC-West following our opening weekend. Another ECAC-West recognized player from the weekend was Erika Martin (sophomore #7) with three goals and two assists who was named to ECAC-West’s Weekly Honor Roll.
More notable players from our opening weekend were Jenny Jones (sophomore #15) with one goal and three assists, Kaitlyn Perrins (sophomore #2) with four assists, and Cassidy Colhoun (first year #9) with two goals within ten seconds of each other during the second game.
On top of a clean sweep, we also broke two records: this weekend was our first sweep at home in the history of our hockey team and our second game beat the record for most goals scored in a single game.
Last night, we played against the Stevenson Mustangs for our first roadie of the year and were shut out 5-0. We were looking for a far better game than the score or our performance dictated, but nonetheless we look ahead to our next weekend against Plattsburgh.
We leave Friday morning for upstate New York and look forward to our second—and longest—road trip of the season and also a good weekend of games against the defending national champions who beat Norwich 9-2 in the finals this past season.
Until next time,
