I would like to first introduce myself. My name is Marie Soukup and I’m a junior at Chatham University. I’m double majoring in Creative Writing and International Business. I play forward for the Chatham Cougars Ice Hockey team.
I’m thrilled to say that my team is looking forward to a great year. Last year, we fell just short of playoffs by one point—exactly one win in our last game of the regular season—and we all had a bitter taste in our mouths. Ask any of my returning teammates and they’d tell you that in the off season in the gym or on the ice, they were thinking ahead to this year and focusing on that emotion and turning it into what will fuel our fire this season.
Looking ahead to this season, we all have the motivation and we know what we have to do. As far as team dynamic, our incoming class is larger than last year and stacks up well to our returning players. Needless to say, myself and all of the returning players are thrilled to see the intensity so early and it can only grow in the coming weeks as we prepare for our first weekend of games.
I’m excited for what is to come for our team this year. It’s already been a blast being back and meeting all twelve of the first year class, as well as getting on the ice and getting in the gym with everyone to get ready for season. As far as games and regular season, the countdown has begun and everyone is looking forward to starting our game weekends.
Let the countdown continue: almost a month till season officially begins!
