BSU Prepares for the 2011-2012 Season

Another year at BSU is just around the corner. I have been working 40 hours a week all summer at the research center for agriculture at the local college in my hometown, Crookston.  As nice as it is to make money, I cannot wait to quit and move into my new house right across from campus with teammates Abby, Jessica, and Molly next week!  We also have 3 pet hermit crabs moving in with us named Rihanna, Lil’ Wayne, and Flava Flav.  My roommate Jessica and I brought them back from our spring break trip to Galveston, Texas in March.  All the juniors and seniors on our team are living in 3 houses that happen to be on the same block so we are all excited to be within walking distance of each other.  Marlee, my sister and teammate, and I will be moving to Bemidji the week before school starts so we can hang out at Lake Bemidji and relax.  Since the season is coming up fast, our way of relaxing, however, consists of morning workouts followed by activities such as canoeing, biking around the lake, paddle boarding, tennis, and anything else that can keep us active while having fun.

As for beginning the hockey season, we are all awaiting the announcement of who our new assistant coach will be.  The decision will be made sometime this week.  We aren’t sure of our first official day of team workouts so as of now we are all doing our own workouts to get ready for testing.  Our testing involves a shuttle run, short sprints, flexibility, and weight lifting.  If we don’t pass our testing scores, we will be going to ‘breakfast club’ workouts at 6am!  We have a total of 7 freshmen and 1 transfer from Maine coming onto the team this year.  We are excited to have a big group of players come in and help us build a successful season this year.  Even though that is a lot of new players, we will have 6 seniors to look to for leadership this season.  Three of the six are our captains this season; Marlee, Alana, and Montana.  It is going to be a blast this year and I can’t wait to get everything started.
