Dear Hockey Fans!
My name is Danielle Marmer and I am a sophomore member of the Quinnipiac Women’s Ice Hockey team. Before I get started I’d like to note that my blogging ability is rookie status, so consider yourself warned! Otherwise, I’d like to welcome you to my blog and I hope that I can give you a little bit of an inside scoop on what being a Bobcat hockey player is all about!
While it is only the beginning of the school year, the team has been together much longer than the start of September. Many of us had the opportunity to spend a semester of summer here at Quinnipiac training and taking a class or two online. We were fortunate enough to have 18 players come this summer and 5 out of 6 freshman began their journey as a Bobcat a little early! It’s pretty fun to be the only kids on campus just hanging out together and playing hockey. While we had an awesome summer working out and bonding as a team we couldn’t be more excited to get the year started and get a little bit closer to the season. But before we could head back to the Q for the start of school we had one little adventure to go on…ok maybe on HUGE adventure! This August our team was fortunate enough to take a trip to Italy and Switzerland for 12 days! We arrived in Milan on August 13th and stayed in Lake Como, a generally quiet, but beautiful lake for the first 3 days of our stay. The next few days were spent in Switzerland playing the Swiss National team and a professional team out of Zurich! It was an unbelievable experience playing the Bronze medal winners of the Sochi Olympics! The rest of our trip was spent exploring cities like Venice, Milan, and finally Rome! We had an unbelievable time and were pretty bummed to know that we had to head back to start classes…
September was spent training, testing, and all sorts of team bonding activities. We had our first exhibition game last Saturday against Team China who had been staying at Quinnipiac and using the facilities for a few weeks. While the game was exciting as it marked the beginning of our season and our first official practices, it was another great opportunity for us to play a team from halfway across world! It was also fun to get everyone back on the ice together to play a real game, which only highlighted the amount of potential we have to work with this year! I hope everyone has an awesome fall and I’ll be back to check in soon!
