After taking my last final on Friday I packed up and headed home for winter break. This is my favorite time of year not only because it is the middle of hockey season and classes are over but because I get to spend time at home with my family. The next ten days will be full of shopping, watching Christmas movies, skating, and relaxing at home.
Although break is a time to relax and heal, it is also a good opportunity to get better and to lift/skate without worrying about being tired or sore for an upcoming game. I will be staying on the ice over the next couple weeks by practicing with the North Yarmouth Academy hockey team. As an alum it will be great to meet and skate with the current players!
Between my last blog and this one our team has played nine games and has an overall record of 5-4. We had a rough start and didn’t play as well as we had hoped to for the first few games of the season. We split with Hamilton on the opening weekend and then lost to Plattsburgh and Elmira at the Panther Cardinal Classic. Although we played okay for parts of these games we couldn’t put together a full sixty minutes. We have played much better since then and have been steadily improving. In the last three games against Trinity, Oswego, and Utica we were much happier with how we played. Things finally started to click and we played three complete games. It’s almost too bad we had to go on break just as we were hitting our stride and getting going! However, I know our team will work hard over break and come back ready to pick up right where we left off. There is still a lot of season left and I am excited to see how we improve over the next couple months.
I hope everyone enjoys the holidays. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!
