MEET MEGAN SALAMONE!

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!

My name is Megan Salamone and I’m from Cleveland, OH.  I’m 11 years old and a 6th grader at Notre Dame Elementary School in Chardon, OH.  I began skating at age three.  I competitively figure skated for four years then switched to hockey.  I have been playing hockey for four years with a coed team at Gilmour and with a girls team at the Cleveland Lady Barons.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE A WHL BRAND AMBASSADOR?

I want to be a WHL  Ambassador to promote hockey among girls.  I am the only girl that plays hockey in my elementary school.  All the other girls (and some boys) at school think this is weird.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AS A #WHLAMBASSADOR?

As a #WHLAMBASSADOR, I’m most looking forward to promoting girls hockey at events and getting to meet other female hockey players across the US.

WHAT’S SOMETHING NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?

A little known fact about me is that I like training dogs in obedience and fieldwork/hunting trials.  I don’t hunt but like watching my dog retrieve things from the water or land.

IF YOU COULD SIT DOWN AND HAVE DINNER WITH ONE FEMALE HOCKEY PLAYER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

I would like to have dinner with either Kelli Stack or Manon Rheaume.  Kelli Stack because she is from Cleveland and I hope she coaches for the Lady Barons some day.  Manon Rheaume because I briefly met her at the Mrs. Hockey Invite in Tampa last month and I would like to talk to her more about her experiences.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN IN HOCKEY OR IN LIFE?

Best advice: Work hard and have fun!

WHAT’S YOUR DREAM FOR WOMEN’S HOCKEY?

I would like to see more women play in the NHL or the women’s league become as popular as the NHL.
