My name is Brooke Davis. I live in Okotoks, Alberta and I’m 13 years old. Currently I am the goalie for the peewee AA Okotoks Oilers boys team, and in the spring I play for the female elite Spartan Outlaws.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE A WHL BRAND AMBASSADOR?
I wanted to be a WHL ambassador because hockey has given me so much in life like commitment and sportsmanship. By being an ambassador I hope that more girls will have the opportunity to experience that themselves.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AS A #WHLAMBASSADOR?
As a WHL ambassador I would love to be a role model for girls and inspire them to follow their dreams and do what they love. I remember my first time putting on the pads and looking up to the older kids who helped coach me and now that I’m older I’ve had the chance to coach many young goalies and knowing that I can help them and that they look up to me makes me feel great.
WHAT’S SOMETHING NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?
When I was 11 I played in goal for a Bauer commercial called ‘The Game Is a Gift’.
IF YOU COULD SIT DOWN AND HAVE DINNER WITH ONE FEMALE HOCKEY PLAYER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
I would pick Shannon Szabados. I remember my first time seeing her on TV and just being in awe. It’s really cool that she played on boys teams when she was my age too.
WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN IN HOCKEY OR IN LIFE?
I was always one of the tallest players on the ice so this phrase really stuck: It’s not how big you are, it’s how big you play.
WHAT’S YOUR DREAM FOR WOMEN’S HOCKEY?
I have to deal with a lot of discrimination through boys hockey but I don’t let that stop me. I only work harder to get that number one spot. So my dream for women’s hockey is for people to look past our gender and see our skill and passion for the game. I also hope that every female hockey player knows their worth in the hockey community because we all play a huge part in the sport of hockey.
