MEET ANJA TURENIUS-BELL!
Tell us about yourself!
I live in Voluntown, CT, a small town in eastern Connecticut. There aren’t many hockey opportunities here, we drive an hour for me to play with a great team! I will be in 3rd grade this year. I started skating when I was four, but then broke my leg at a trampoline park. It took me another year to get back on the ice and I had a hard time with my stride. I’m all better now! I’ve been playing since 2017, first as a player to get my skating better, and now I’m a goalie for a Squirt A1 team.
What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?
Girls hockey in CT is growing and I want to be a part of that. By being a brand ambassador, I can share my story and hopefully inspire girls around me to try out for hockey. Maybe I can help grow the game out here in eastern CT. I think it’ll be fun to meet new people and maybe even play with them!
What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?
Meeting new people and finding new opportunities to play and help others be a part of the game.
What’s something not a lot of people know about you?
If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?
Brooke Wolejko with the NWHL’s Connecticut Whale. She’s a goalie from CT and I feel I can learn a lot from her.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?
You gotta be the best skater to be a goalie.
What’s your dream for women’s hockey?
I want to play college hockey and try to make it to the NWHL! Women’s hockey is here to stay!
